The Alice Campion groupies still on a high from their Sydney Writers' Festival workshop on colla

Thank you to all of you. I had such a great time. It really increased my confidence in my ability to write fiction, and showed me how much more fun and productive writing fiction as a group can be!" - Workshop Participant, Sydney Writers’ Festival

We were just thrilled with the success of our full-day workshop at The Sydney Writers' Festival last month. The room was brimming with budding collaborative fiction writers, as we spent seven solid hours guiding three teams through the fundamentals of writing fiction as a group.

"I already know that day will be life-changing for me. I feel it was absolutely the kick I needed!" - Workshop Participant, Sydney Writers’ Festival

Each group had chosen the genre they wanted to write in. There was only one pair of friends - everyone else were strangers and they comprised writers from various backgrounds, both experienced and emerging.

So we had the Poirots, the Tolkiens and the Rendells! What fun ...

Sitting in on the group discussions, we Alice Campions were transported to a crime scene on a cold, urban streetscape, revealing an examination in alienation and identity, to Sydney's leafy suburbs where a young woman is confronted by the discovery of buried family secrets, and finally, a desperate mother and her children with hidden powers fleeing a Dystopian society in a rowboat!

The room buzzed as ideas sparked and solutions were seized upon. Then, it would settle into beautiful silence with only the tip tap of computer keys and the odd giggle as they everyone took time to work up their first drafts, only to erupt again - and so the waves of creation continued.

Using our techniques (that can be found in our eBook - see panel on your right), each team collaborated on a further two drafts, until they had produced a seamless sequence of scenes from within their greater story-arc.

"Thanks for a great workshop. A really instructive process, especially in letting go of controlling the prose.” - Workshop Participant, Sydney Writers’ Festival

Finally, the greater group was treated to readings from each group's extraordinary stories! We were so impressed with the cooperation of all the participants, the overall quality of writing, and the sheer hard work!

What a day's work ...

"I'm so admiring of your passion and dedication and of course your talent. And now to be so giving of your time in teaching others how you did it.” - Workshop Participant, Sydney Writers’ Festival

What others are saying

At first we couldn’t believe that The Painted Sky was written by five people - it reads seamlessly, and the characters and storylines are so vividly realised.”
